PEARL Practice Based Research Network

History of the PEARL Network with the Hispanic Dental Association

In 2005 the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) funded three dental practice based research networks in the United States. The purpose of the network is to conduct research in dental practices that will answer the questions from everyday practice. The PEARL Network based out of NYU College of Dentistry began recruiting the first sites into the network that year. From 2005 to 2011 the network has grown to well over 200 sites, and has spread across the country.

The network serves a diverse population where 90.6% of sites report serving Latino populations, and of those sites 49.6% have enrolled Latino patients into clinical studies, and there are 18 Latino dentists in the network. The PEARL Network has also worked to engage providers at the Hispanic Dental Association presenting a series of presentations at HDA annual meetings, and working together with oral health advocates to connect with the community and increase participation with patients and providers.

How do I join the PEARL Network?  To join you can call, submit an online interest form, or email.
