WHY A CLINIC in GUATEMALA?
Impoverished young scholarship girls are losing their teeth and smiles. These students are working to become future professionals. Without your help they will become professionals without teeth. Children in the local elementary & middle schools and area adults do not have access to dental care and training. They are too poor. Without our help, these young people will also lose their teeth & smiles.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
1. Working Equipment Donation: We have a Rotary project in process to take equipment for other rural clinics. Hope to ship late spring 2008. (Slow speed hand pieces, Instruments, General consumable supplies, Toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss, Cavitrons, autoclaves, etc.)
2. Used instruments or consumables for the Colomba Rotary clinic.
3. VOLUNTEER 5 days of your time in the new clinic.
4. Enjoy great food and relaxing evenings on a 150 year old coffee, macadamia & cheese estate. Have 3-4 days traveling escorted through the wonderful land of the Maya, see Spanish history, volcanos & a huge crater lake.
5. Save Teeth; Save Smiles, Feel Good! Save a student or child's future...
THE PROPOSED DENTAL TRIP PLAN
First day in Guatemala; travel to the lovely Finca near Colomba & learn about Macadamias & coffee. Relax over a home cooked dinner.
Days 2-6: work at the dental clinic at the Finca. Work includes assessing & filling a multitude of cavities. Some of the students have already had teeth pulled, the only affordable option.
Day 7: Travel to Panahchel, the fabulously scenic Lago Atitlan & it's three volcanos. We'll boat across the lake to Mayan village Santiago Atitlan. The family owned hotel is 1 block from the lake.
Day 8: Chichicastenango's market day (Sunday) & a short hike to the 2000 year old Cerro Maya altar. Evening in historic Antiqua, center of colonial Spanish America & a quiet new hotel near the town center.
Day 9: Tour the ruins & the Antigua art museum. Then travel to Airport B&B in Guatemala City for your morning flight.
Trip Cost: ground cost is all inclusive of transportation, lodging, meals, admissions. Your airfare depends on your departure city. Alcoholic Beverages extra.

OPPORTUNITY IN BOLIVIA
Does a smile on a young person's face bring one to yours? The Bolivian-based non-profit, Smiles Forever, trains homeless indigenous women to become dental hygienists and community leaders. Using a traditional two-year training program, the young women learn the value of preventative care through theory lecture in a classroom and clinical practice with other dental care professionals. Smiles Forever is looking for Spanish-speaking American dentists to travel to Cochabamba, Bolivia in October to teach our hygiene students. We are looking for dentists with periodonic and endodontic knowledge to be instructors and help develop our curriculumn. For more information, contact our office at 206-417-5100 or fax us at 206-417-4998. www.smilesforever.org
