Additional Chapter Information

The Tufts SHDA was founded in 1994 and aligns its mission with that of the National Hispanic Dental Association, especially in promoting the oral health of the Hispanic community through improved prevention, treatment, and education. The Tufts SHDA has reached out to the Boston Hispanic community by participating in events, including :

 

*Several Health fairs

    --Oral exams, nutritional counseling, and oral hygiene instructions are provided

*Give Kids a Smile

    --At this year's event (February 6, 2011) 27 children were seen and 47 procedures were performed, including 29 sealants, 16 fluoride varnish applications, and 2 cleanings

 

The organization also reaches out to communities outside Boston, by participating in mission trips. Since its founding, 11 trips have been made. The most recent have been/will be:

August 2011  Dominican Republic

April 2010     Dominican Republic

August 2009  Haiti

April 2009     Quito Sur, Ecuador

 

Several events within the school are also organized:

*Spanish Terminology Class

*Cinco de Mayo Party, including a musical performance by Veronica Robles

*Senior Award Dinner

*Dia del Dentista party

*Salsa Dancing
