Myriam Zambrano, RDH, BSDH
Ms. Myriam Zambrano, RDH, BSDH, is the Dental Health Promotion Coordinator for the Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services' Disease Control & Clinical Prevention Division. In her capacity as Dental Health Promotion coordinator she is responsible for overseeing ten school district school based programs implemented throughout Harris County. Throughout her career Ms. Zambrano has made public health dentistry a priority and consistently strives to improve the dental health of the communities she serves. Prior to joining Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services, Ms. Zambrano worked for Healthcare for the Homeless-Houston providing invaluable care to Houston's most underserved residents.
During her dental hygiene education at The University of Texas-Dental Branch in Houston she was an active member of the Hispanic Student Dental Association. Her leadership roles in this organization included her service as secretary and vice president. Ms. Zambrano was the recipient of the Juan D. Villarreal Scholarship, served as her graduating class secretary, was named Houston Community College Alumni of the Year in 2006 and was recognized by Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals with the Student Total Achievement Award. It is through her involvement with her student HDA chapter and its opportunities to serve the ever growing Hispanic population in Houston that Ms. Zambrano's awareness and zeal for public health were sparked.
Ms. Zambrano's commitment to public health dentistry also involves training the next generation of public health professionals. Ms. Zambrano has made it possible for the dental hygiene students at the University of Texas Health Science Center-Dental Branch to rotate through the Harris County Public Health & Environmental Services dental clinic as a part of their clinical education. She has also served as a member of the Houston Community College Dental Assisting Program Advisory committee for over ten years. Ms. Zambrano is also a yearly presenter for The Boy Scouts of America and annually participates in several community health fairs.
As an active member and future officer of the Greater Houston Hispanic Dental Association in her local professional chapter Ms. Zambrano continues to be involved with the Hispanic Dental Association as a volunteer for The Special Olympics and the Bright Smiles/Bright Futures Colgate Dental Van. She also serves on the HDA Scholarship Committee. Ms. Zambrano commits her knowledge, dedication, experience and most of all her willingness to serve those most in need. Ms. Zambrano spends her days in the schools talking to teachers, nurses, counselors and parents getting a first hand look at what the needs are. It is this day to day contact with those she serves that allows her to have a better understanding of what the clinical necessities may be. Ms. Zambrano feels that her expertise and knowledge of public health are best utilized by providing a comprehensive approach to the promotion and improvement of oral health and optimizing the Oral Health of the Hispanic Community. Ms. Zambrano strongly believes that no one should be denied access to care.
