Hispanic Dental Association Annouces
2008 Procter & Gamble Orgullo Competition Award Winners

A total of twenty-one HDA Student Chapters participated this year in the 2008 Procter and Gamble Orgullo (Pride) Awards, with the winners announced on Saturday, November 15, 2008 by P&G Territory Manager Edgar Rivera at the Gala Event of the Hispanic Dental Association's 16th Annual Meeting in Carefree, Arizona. During the meeting, student posters were judged by a panel of impartial judges and rated on community outreach efforts which delivered dental screenings, Crest and Oral-B oral care products as well as oral and printed educational materials in both English and Spanish. Recruitment efforts for middle and high school students to encourage young Hispanics to strive for careers in dentistry were an integral part of the community education programs.

First, second, and third-place prizes were provided by Procter and Gamble. The winning chapters this year were: UCLA School of Dentistry (First Prize of $750); UTHSC - San Antonio (Second Prize of $500); and UTHSC - Houston (Third Prize of $250).  Volunteer judges for this year's competition were Kathy Alvarez, RDHDr. Kenneth May, Dr. Lilia Larin and Dr. Haydee Aranda.
