This year’s ADEA DEIB Workshop is a joint symposium of the ADEA Office of Access, Diversity and Inclusion and the Journal of Dental Education (JDE). It will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, in St. Louis, Missouri. The Symposium will also feature scholars and authors from the September 2022 JDE special issue on expanding and improving social justice, equity, access, diversity, inclusion and health equity in the academic health professions, health care, and oral health. Focusing on lessons learned, the JDE special issue will be released soon and is forward thinking in its effort to drive change and present contemporary solutions necessary to address the difficult systemic challenges related to racism, gender equality, health equity, and equality for all persons.

Our keynote speaker for the ADEA DEIB Workshop this year is Reed V. Tuckson, M.D., F.A.C.P. As many of you know, Dr. Tuckson has been a leading voice in health care for over 35 years. He is the Founder of the Black Coalition Against COVID-19, a community-based initiative that seeks to provide trustworthy, science-based, information curated for the Black community and other communities of color about COVID-19 vaccines and related topics in an effort to help save lives. Additionally, Dr. Tuckson has served as Commissioner of Public Health for the District of Columbia; the Senior Vice President for Programs of the March of Dimes Foundation; the President of the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science; the Senior Vice President for Professional Standards of the American Medical Association; the Executive Vice President and Chief of Medical Affairs for UnitedHealth Group, a Fortune 25 Health and Wellbeing Company; and now as the Managing Partner of Tuckson Health Connections. Additionally, he has been recognized several times by Modern Healthcare Magazine’s listing of the “50 Most Powerful Physician Executives” in healthcare.
