Dental Sleep Medicine from A to Zzz

Course Objectives: -  Participants will learn about:

  • Effects of sub-optimal sleep on health and quality of life
  • Recognize symptoms and behaviors that may indicate sleep disordered breathing
  • Understand the current and proposed diagnostic methods and the role of the dentists in the team approach
  • Review the current treatment modalities for snoring and for mild, moderate and severe OSA.
  • Explore the role that dentists can play in the management of sleep disordered breathing
  • Understand the side effects of oral appliance therapy and how to manage them
  • Participants will also be involved in a Q & A session following  the lecture

 Guest Speaker:

Jeff Paz, DDS. - After graduating from St. Mary’s University with a Biochemistry degree, Dr. Paz commenced his training at Tufts University with a focus on Molecular Craniofacial Development-spawning his interest in craniofacial development, especially on the T.M.J and oral cavity, T.M.J., along with facial muscles and bones. Dr. Paz has authored and lectured extensively across the United States on topics ranging from animal models predicting bone reconstruction and craniofacial development, to evidence based practice. Dr. Paz remains committed to excellent patient care by continuing to serve as adjunct faculty at the UT-Health School of Dentistry in San Antonio, helping train other dentists. Dr. Paz is excited to join the practice of Dr. Drake and begin forging long-lasting relationships with our sleep patients.
