2025 CE Series: Clinical Management of Diabetes Patients in the Dental Office

Course Summary: Diabetes is a widely prevalent disease, and every dental office treats patients with diabetes. This lecture will focus on the management of diabetes patients who present to the dental office. Current diagnosis and medical treatment of diabetes will be reviewed, and an in-office treatment protocol will be presented. This lecture is designed to be a clinically relevant discussion of diabetes and its effect on dental treatment. Learning Outcomes: After this course, the attendee will:
Speaker Biographical Sketch: Brian Mealey, D.D.S., M.S., is a Clinical Professor and former Graduate Program Director in the Department of Periodontics at the UT Health School of Dentistry in San Antonio, Texas. He served 21 years in the U.S Air Force as both a general dentist and a periodontist. He was the Chair of the Department of Periodontics at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio and the Program Director of the Air Force Periodontics Residency. Brian is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and a former Director of the Board. He is also a former Trustee of the American Academy of Periodontology. He has published two textbooks and over 120 articles in the scientific literature with a focus on periodontal medicine, wound healing and implant dentistry. Dr. Mealey maintains an active clinical practice in periodontics and implantology. |
